Program Overview
The Penn Measey Scholars in Molecular Medicine program is designed to support exceptionally promising physician-scientists as they train and launch their independent research programs. Beyond their primary focus on being both outstanding scientists and physicians, those focused on discovery science must master a number of skills not learned in the course of traditional medical school or MD/PhD training, including personnel management, navigating mentor-mentee relationships, financial literacy and writing R01-style grants, in order to lead a successful and impactful independent program.
The Penn Measey Scholars Program aims to:
Provide funding to accelerate the scientific development of the most promising trainees on their path to becoming groundbreaking physician-scientist faculty
Integrate the Scholar with a basic science department or institute to assure that they have one foot firmly planted in medicine and another in the basic sciences.
Provide directed mentorship and resources to enhance the trainee’s scientific education.
Offer Scholars an opportunity to learn skills that will be required as an independent PI, including management, mentoring, leadership, and financial literacy.
Scholars will typically be 1-3 years away from launching an innovative independent program. See Eligibility for further details.
