The Penn Measey Scholars in Molecular Medicine program is designed to support exceptionally promising physician-scientists as they train and launch their independent research programs. Beyond their primary focus on being both outstanding scientists and physicians, those focused on discovery science must master a number of skills not learned in the course of traditional medical school or MD/PhD training, including personnel management, navigating mentor-mentee relationships, financial literacy and writing R01-style grants, in order to lead a successful and impactful independent program.

The Penn Measey Scholars Program aims to:

• Provide funding to accelerate the scientific development of the most promising trainees on their path to becoming groundbreaking physician-scientist faculty

• Integrate the Scholar with a basic science department or institute to assure that they have one foot firmly planted in medicine and another in the basic sciences.

• Provide directed mentorship and resources to enhance the trainee’s scientific education.

• Offer Scholars an opportunity to learn skills that will be required as an independent PI, including management, mentoring, leadership, and financial literacy.

Scholars will typically be 1-3 years away from launching an innovative independent program. See Eligibility for further details.
