Elizabeth Traxler, MD PhD
Dr. Elizabeth (Liz) Traxler, MD, PhD, received her BA in Biochemistry and MS in Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania in 2010. She then pursued combined degree MD/PhD training in the Medical Scientist Training Program at the Perelman School of Medicine. During this time, she completed her graduate thesis work in Dr. Mitchell Weiss’s laboratory, focusing on red blood cell development and therapies for hemoglobinopathies including sickle cell disease and thalassemia. In 2018, she went on to complete Internal Medicine residency at Hospital of University of Pennsylvania through the Physician Scientist Pathway, and she continued there for fellowship in Hematology/Oncology in 2020. Liz plans to focus on classical hematology and is conducting research in the laboratory of Dr. Gerd Blobel to study new mechanisms of fetal hemoglobin regulation towards novel therapies for hemoglobinopathies.
